National Endowment for the Arts Chariman Jane Chu has approved the Writers’ Guild Initiative to receive a grant in support of the Helen Deutsch Veterans’ Writing Workshops.
(For those unfamiliar with the NEA, being approved means that there’s still some paperwork to fill out. You know, because… the government. But it’s pretty much equal to receiving the grant.)
The WGI is thrilled to receive this approval, based on the following description of the Helen Deutsch Veterans’ Writing Workshops:
The Helen Deutsch Writing Workshops serve to teach writing to wounded veterans and their family caregivers. These workshops respond to an unprecedented war effect in the United States in the number of physically and psychologically injured soldiers and marines returning home. Their purpose is to help veterans’ and their family caregivers explore storytelling in all its forms with the guidance and support of outstanding writer mentors, including award-winning playwrights, TV writers, screenwriters, novelists, journalists, and poets. The goal is to help these participants to find their voice and tell their story.
