Profile Theater’s mission is to produce a season of first-class productions and community engagement activities centered around a single writer whose vision broadens our perspective on our world and deepens our collective compassion.
The WGI began working with the theater’s Community Profile group, which in 2018 invited those living with chronic illness, their loved ones and caregivers for a year-long program that uses the practice of writing to help them reflect, share and build much-needed community.
In early 2018, the WGI and Profile conducted an in-depth weekend of writing instruction. The weekend included our writing workshops, as well as a production of Lisa Kron’s 2.5 Minute Ride, and a meeting with Profile Theater’s community of artists at the theatre.
Throughout the year, the theater continues to use local mentors for a few hours of writing instruction one Saturday a month – an opportunity to check in, continue sharing pages and deepening our sense of community.
At the end of Profile’s 2018-2019 season, there will be another extended weekend of writing workshop, along with a public presentation of writing that has come out of our year-long program.
Profile has commissioned world-renowned theatre artist and National Medal of Arts recipient Ping Chong + Company to create an original docu-theater piece that interweaves the personal stories of five of our Community Profile participants with the history of health care in our city and in our country. This original piece, entitled (UN)CONDITIONAL,l premiered at Profile Theatre in February of 2019.
